House of Blum

Location: Mihail Kogălniceanu Street, no. 7
The house was built at the end of the 19th century by the Blum family. In terms of typology, it falls into the category of dwellings on one level with blind wall in the Hellenistic style. Basically, the house was a private residential space. Since 1949, the house has been nationalized and became the headquarters of the local newspaper “Zorile Putnei” then “Milcovul”. Between 1965-1970, the building became the head office of “Culture and Socialist Education Committee of Vrancea”. At the end of 1970 it housed the Kindergarten No. 14, and since 1989 it has returned to its rightful owners.
Structurally, “the construction plan appears L-shaped. The main body of the building is located with the facade facing south and highlights the entry protruded and higher than the lateral wings, with gable and frieze decorated with garlands of stucco and separate roof, attic provided with skylights. The access is made through a four-wing wooden door with wood panels and vegetal decorations. Above the entrance there is a semi-circular arched gable, richly adorned with vegetal stucco decorations. The interior doors bear wooden slats decorated with vases and floral motifs. The facades are punctuated by the windows framed by simple sections with socles at the level of the parapet and with gables depicting lion heads and vegetal decoration in stucco. The corners are marked by fluted columns and simple capital. The mansard roof is fitted with skylights.” (National Cultural Heritage built in Vrancea County – Museum of Vrancea).
